There are many addicts who have spent months, years and even decades having their daily life dictated by one or more substances. Because of this, they have lost track of what a “normal” day looks like, how it’s supposed to be structured, and most importantly from now onwards, how they can maximise their time every single day on achieving and maintaining some form of regularity, stability and recovery!
So we thought that we’d give those who want to learn on a live step by step basis, how to structure your day and use your time efficiently on your current recovery, or if you aren’t already in recovery, give you a great place to start from.
How It’ll Work
At 09:00 on Friday 23rd April 2021, we will post an overview of the way in which the day will be set out.
Then between 09:00 and 20:00 UK time, we will be uploading live, step by step guides each hour which will contain the following information:
- A brief overview about what will happen during the next hour.
- What you should want to achieve in that hour.
- Tips, hints and links to other helpful information for that hour.
- Each hour will be split into 3 “levels”. Level 1 for those who are still using or drinking and have absolutely no idea what to do or how to structure a day, level 2 for those who are in the very early stages of their recovery and have stopped using or drinking within the past 120 days, and finally level 3 for those who are experienced in their recovery but simple want some tips and tricks to improve their current daily recovery routine.
During each hour, those wanting to participate in the live experiment can contact us online with any questions you may have about what’s happening in that hour, suggestions you wish to share with others. We will then respond to them instantly with live support throughout the entire day.
At 21:00 until 22:00, we will be hosting a live group meeting through zoom for those who have been taking part in the experiment and want to share their thoughts, ideas, or even to just share their opinions or experience of the experiment. This is optional, if you don’t feel comfortable joining the group, you don’t have to.
The hourly plans will be posted through the Drink ‘n’ Drugs social media platforms and also on the One Day At A Time Experiment page of our website (the page you are currently on).
You do not need to sign up to anything if you want to take part in this experiment, however it would help us to get an ideas of numbers if you could let us know if you would like to take part in some, or all of the experiment.
We will pin the ODAAT image shown at the top of this page on our social media pages so that you can simply comment below if you are interested in taking part.
If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please ask us through our social media pages or by contacting us.
If you are still actively using drugs or alcohol, its important that you speak with your drug and alcohol Keyworker, Doctor or healthcare professional about using or drinking throughout this experiment. We will include steps for those actively using or drinking within our sections, however throughout this experiment, we will not advice you to use drugs or drink alcohol at any point.
Experiment Updates & Notifications
21/04/2021 – Changes to levels for each segment.
We have decided to change level 2 of the experiment from those who have stopped using and/or drinking within the past 30 days to those who have stopped drinking and/or using within the last 120 days. This will allow participants to feel more inclusive and confident within their chosen level of participation.
22/04/2021 – We’ve changed the date of the experiment.
We’ve been absolutely blown away by the response and popularity we’ve had so far in the short time since we posted this idea.
We’ve had a few participants who have said that they want to make the most of this opportunity, but because the 23rd was so soon, they wouldn’t be able to fully dedicate their time to this due to prior commitments. So because of this, we’ve taken the decision to change the date from 23rd April to the 30th April (one week later), so that people could ensure that they can take part and benefit, improve, or even begin their recovery journey!
28/04/2021 – Extending the experiment
We’ve decided to extend the experiment to end at 21:00/9pm UK time. This is to provide a more accurate example of a typical day.
